Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
